300 personnes, deux jours : FIGN au PH Tech Expo 2026

Across two days at Port Harcourt Tech Expo 2026, 300 people played Traka with FIGN. For many of the girls who joined us, it was their first experience playing a video game.

The expo took place on June 11–12 at EUI Events Center in Port Harcourt, under the theme Syntropy. The official event programme focused on how people, technology, and organizations can work together to build a stronger regional ecosystem. FIGN brought a practical way to take part: an opportunity to play.

A first game belongs in the story

Traka is an esports talent combine testing reaction speed, aim, and memory. At the expo, it gave visitors a way to try gaming for themselves. Alongside the Traka activity, many girls tried video games for the first time.

That matters to how we understand access. A person can be surrounded by conversations about technology and still have had few opportunities to use it through play. A first experience makes gaming something she can participate in directly, with space to discover what interests her.

We want that opportunity to be ordinary. Girls should be able to try a game without needing an established gamer identity, a competitive record, or a plan to turn it into a career. Curiosity is enough.

Making participation part of the programme

Technology events bring together people who may never attend a dedicated gaming tournament. They offer a useful place for FIGN’s work because a first encounter can happen alongside someone’s interest in education, creativity, or technology more broadly.

Our role is to help make that encounter welcoming and to offer somewhere to continue afterwards. Some people will want to compete. Others will enjoy casual play, find an interest in making games, or simply appreciate meeting other women with similar interests. All of those are valid ways to belong.
